We’re going to be nice in here, ok? It should come naturally, as I’m going to assume that we either are activists, or are interested in working to make this world better for everyone. If you disagree with someone, be civil about it. Now, if you think that this is infringing on your right to free speech, so be it! I don’t like a bunch of chaos and confrontation in my space, and this blog is part of that space.
I, and any space that I occupy is a Hate Free Zone, and that includes this blog. That means no hate remarks, or speech, or justification for discrimination against any group of people. Ever! This should not have to mentioned to those who are working for social change, but for those of you who aren’t sure, this is for you. There are two things that I believe in strongly: Everyone must, in their fashion, work to make the world a better place for all, and one does not have to be a member of a certain group in order to work for equal rights and justice for them.
Consider this paraphrase of a quote from a minister who lived in Germany during the Nazi regime:
“First they came for the Jews, but I wasn’t a Jew, so I didn’t react. Then they came for the Communists, but I wasn’t a Communist, so I didn’t object. Then they came for the Homosexuals, but I wasn’t a Homosexual, so I didn’t stand up. Then they came for the Political Activists, but I wasn’t a Political Activist, so I didn’t protest. Then they came for me…and by that time, no one was left to speak out.”
Get it? ‘Nuff said!
Ok, on to another thing: Spamming. I don’t spam, and I won’t tolerate it here! My definition of spamming is posting useless posts that have nothing to do with the subject at hand. This also applies to folks who want to advertise. Hey, I have a business myself, but I’m not going to advertise it here because that’s not what this blog is about.
Please know that all posts will be sent in for Moderation, so if you don’t see your post right away, don’t be discouraged. This will help with spam. Sorry for the inconvenience, but this is all part of protecting each of us against spam.
The last thing that I will address is strong language. I understand that we, as adults sometimes use strong language when we’re upset, or if we’re especially passionate about something. I strongly prefer that we don’t cuss in here because we are far more intelligent and creative than that, and I want this to be a family friendly and welcoming place where kids can come, if they wish. Also, don’t post using all caps. That is considered yelling, and we all know that yelling is rude and intimidating.
Folks, if you feel that these guidelines are too strict, or offensive, perhaps another space would be more appropriate for your needs. I will warn you if you mess up, but after that, I will ask that you find another community. I don’t think that it will come to that, so enjoy your time here!
