ADAPT Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Olmstead Decision with Fun*Run in Upper Senate Park!

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Fun*Run time is fast approaching, and I’ll be out there in Upper Senate Park in Washington, DC, wheeling around in circles raising money to continue the fight for civil rights for people with disabilities. Once again, ADAPT has made it easy for those with Internet access to support my efforts with a link to my site where one can make a donation. Here is the message that I’ve sent out. Thank you in advance for your support!

Let’s work together to end the institutional bias!

Ask your U.S. Senators and Representative in Congress to become initial co-sponsors of the Community Choice Act (CCA)!

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

This Action Alert is from Bruce, and I can say with confidence that he doesn’t mind me posting it here!

Ask your U.S. Senators and Representative in Congress to become initial co-sponsors of the Community Choice Act (CCA)!

During the last Congress, we had a record number of legislators sign on as cosponsors of the Community Choice Act (CCA).  This legislation ends the institutional bias in the Medicaid program and gives people real choice in how and where they receive long term services and supports.  When this legislation is passed people won’t be forced into a nursing facility or other institution to get the assistance they need.

Because we now have started a new Congress, the Community Choice Act needs to be reintroduced.  Rather than start all over again building the number of cosponsors, we want to have the bill reintroduced with as many initial cosponsors as we can get.  We are confident that we can get a strong start and get this important legislation passed this Congress!  Use these links to contact your US Senators and Representative in Congress to ask that they become initial co-sponsors of the Community Choice Act.

After you take action on this alert, pass it and ask others to help too.  It only takes a couple of minutes but can make a huge difference.

It’s critical that we ALL make our voices heard on this important issue.

Laid up

Between the last post and this one, much has happened. I went to the ADAPT strategy meeting in Austin, and Legislative Day, and training in Albany. I got to speak out at the NYAPRS rally against cuts in SSI.

Here’s the video:

Now that I’ve told you about the important stuff, let’s get back to me. Through all of this, I have been back and forth to doctors for various health issues. Now, I’m laid up in pain (I’ve been so all week) from colon issues again, and I found out yesterday that I’m to have surgery AGAIN! This time, depending on what they find, they’ll do a procedure that could lead to a complication that I’m not going to talk about here, but after discussing it with Lisa, we have decided to give the doc permission to do the procedure, if need be. The surgery will be on Thursday, February 26th.

Needless to say, though I am in intense pain, I am missing work, and trying to do stuff from home. Hopefully, I can make it in tomorrow, or next week.

I’ll kee you abreast of what is going on.
